NIA team in Imphal to investigate insurgency related cases

Imphal, December 12 2010: Two officers of NIA (National Investigating Agency) arrived here today to investigate into various cases related with activities of insurgents including the case related with UNLF chairman RK Meghen, a highly placed official source said.

Meanwhile, Union Home Ministry office, New Delhi while confirming Home Minister P Chidambaram's two day visit in the state made a slight modification to the tentative programme prepared by the state government for his visit.

The source said that the two NIA officers arrived here this afternoon by a flight (IT 0211) and they will stay in Imphal till December 22 to investigate various insurgency related cases and the activities of the underground groups.

However, the source refused to divulge particulars.

They will also investigate into some bomb blast incidents.

Mention may be made that NIA is already investigating a case related to bomb fitted car parked inside the Raj Bhavan two years back and other major blasts that occurred in the state in the last few years.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Union ministry of home affairs has given the finalised programme for Home Minister P Chidambaram's visit in the state on Tuesday (December 14) .

The plan of inspecting a designated camp of KNO/KNA at Henbung in Senapati district has been cancelled.

Earlier, he was to inspect three designated camps of the Kuki based underground outfits under suspension of operation (SoO) in his two day visit but will now inspect only two designated camps.

The two designated camps the Home Minister will be visiting are that of ZRO (Zomi Revolutionary Organisation) at Singhat and Saikot in Churachandpur district.

He will also review the internal security situation, the official source said today.

In his visit, he will also hold a meeting of the Combined Headquarter Meeting to be chaired by Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh at the Chief Minister's secretariat.

Joint director (NE) Dr MC Meganathan, joint director (IB), RN Ravi and Director General of Assam Rifles will accompany the Home Minister.

They will arrive at Imphal Airport by an Indian Air Force special flight at 2.30 pm.

The Home Minister's private secretary MA Siddiqui will also accompanied the Home Minister.

As per the schedule received by the state government, after his arrival in Imphal at 2.30 pm, he will convene a meeting with the top brass of the state security establishments and home department at the Raj Bhavan.

The Combined Headquarter meeting to be chaired by the Chief Minister, O Ibobi at the CM's secretariat will begin at 4.30 pm.

All forces engaged in counter insurgency operations in the state are to attend the meeting.

The Home Minister will also hold an interaction programme with students of GP Women College, Imphal at 5.45 pm.

This will be followed by another round of meeting with the Governor.

On the next day of his visit, Chidambaram will be taken to Sendra and Moirang by helicopter as part of a sight seeing.

After lunch at Sendra, he will proceed to Churachandpur to inspect the two designated camps.

The Home Minister will visit the Khuga Multi-purpose project which was recently inaugurated by UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi on November 12.He will leave Imphal for New Delhi by the Indian Air Force flight at 2.30 pm.
