Zomi National Day held at NLD Headquaters

On 20th February, 63th anniversary of Zomi National Day organized by leaders from Zomi National Congress and Chin nationalities was held at the NLD headquarters at 4 p.m. U Gin Kam Lian from ZNC acted as a master of ceremony, when U Pu Chin Sian Thang expressed words of thanks and explained intention of the ceremony. On behalf of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who could not come to the ceremony due to her tight schedule, U Tin Oo, Vice Chairman of NLD made a short remarks emphasizing the importance of national unity for emergence of democratic nation and second Panglong conference which Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been attempting to realize.


Then four surviving families of Chin leaders and General Aung San who had signed the Panglong Agreement were awarded ‘Independence Memorial Honor’. Leaders of NLD, CRPP members, ethnic leaders, leaders from political parties and 88 generation students’ leaders attended the ceremony. Zomi national youths entertained the attendees with traditional songs. A dinner was served to the guests who attended the ceremony.

Today marks the sixty-third anniversary of Zomi/Chin National Day. On this day in 1948, our forefathers at Falam, the then capital, eliminated by public vote, the Chin Hills Regulation Act, enacted for hereditary rulers to govern the country. Then, our forefathers replaced it by the Chin Special Division Act which introduces some democratic principles such as that rulers shall be elected by majority vote, such as village councilors and circle chairman councilors and so on. So, this day, the Zomi/Chin National Day, is the first day that creates the first democratic change after independence, the first hallmark of our independence.


This Zomi/Chin National Day is the result of Panglong Agreement: because of Panglong Agreement, Burma won her independence: because of this agreement, we celebrate here today our national day. But the most important thing remained unsolved to fulfill the terms of Panglong Agreement: due to lack of fulfillment, the Zomi/Chins cannot celebrate their national day everywhere in Burma but only in Chin State: even in Chin State too, not as Zomi/Chin National Day but as Chin State Day only. This is against the terms of Panglong Agreement.


Our forefathers singed the agreement on February 12, 1947 with a view to building a better Union of Burma on the basis of federal constitution as revealed vividly by the Frontier Areas Committee of Inquiry 1947 Report Part and Part II Appendices. Because of this unfulfilled Agreement, our country is now in a difficult position; as one of the Least Developed Countries in the world, under the rule of sham democracy, despotism.


So, let us follow the footsteps of our forefathers and continue the unfinished work to fulfill by means of Twenty-first Century Panglong Conference!

ဒီကေန႕မနက္ပိုင္းက ၆၃ႏွစ္ေျမာက္ ဇိုမီးအမ်ဳိးသားေန႕ အခမ္းအနားတခုကို အေမရိကန္ျပည္ေထာင္စု၊ ေအာ္ရီဂြန္စတိတ္ ေပါ့လန္းျမိဳ႕မွာ က်င္းပျပဳလုပ္ခဲ့ၾကပါတယ္။

ဒီအခမ္းအနားမွာ ဇိုမီးအမ်ဳိးသားေခါင္းေဆာင္ ဦးပုုက်င္းရွင္းထန္ေပးပို႕ခဲ့တဲ့ သ၀ဏ္လြာကို ဖတ္ၾကားခဲ့ျပီး ဇိုမီးရိုးရာ သီခ်င္းသီဆိုမွဳေတြ၊ ဇိုမီးကေလးငယ္ေတြက ရိုးရာ၀တ္စံုေတြနဲ႕ သရုပ္ျပတင္ဆက္ခဲ့ၾကသလို ရိုးရာအစားအစာေတြနဲ႔ ဧည့္ခံေကြ်းေမြးခဲ့ျပီး ဧည့္ပရိသတ္စုစုေပါင္း ၂၀၀ နီးပါး တက္ေရာက္ခဲ့ၾကပါတယ္။ အခန္းအနားက်င္းပရျခင္းနဲ႕ပါတ္သက္လို႕ စီစဥ္သူတဦးျဖစ္တဲ့ Pu Mang Suan Pau  အခုလိုရွင္းျပပါတယ္။

“က်ေနာ္တို႕ဇိုမီးအမ်ိဳးသားေတြအေနနဲ႕ ဘယ္ေနရာေရာက္ ကိုယ့္လူမ်ဳိး ကို မေမ့ဘူးဆိုတာကို ျပသတဲ့အေနနဲ႕ အခုလို အခန္းအနားကို က်င္းပရျခင္းျဖစ္ပါတယ္။”

အခမ္းအနားကို တက္ေရာက္လာသူေတြထဲက ဇိုမီးအမ်ဳိးသမီးတဦးျဖစ္တဲ့ မလြန္ကေတာ့

“က်မ အရမ္း ၀မ္းသာပီတိျဖစ္ရပါတယ္။ ႏိုင္ငံျခားတိုင္းျပည္ေတြေရာက္ေနၾကတဲ့ ဘယ္လို ဇိုမီးလူမ်ဳိးေတြမဆို က်မခံစားခ်က္အတုိင္း ခံစားရလိမ့္ မယ္လို႕ က်မယံုၾကည္ပါတယ္၊”

အေမရိကန္ျပည္ေထာင္စု၊ ေအာ္ရီဂြန္ျပည္နယ္၊ ေပါ့လန္းျမိဳ႕မွာ ဇုိမီးအမ်ဳိးသားစုစုုေပါင္း အေယာက္ ၁၅၀ ေက်ာ္ ေနထိုင္လ်က္ရွိပါတယ္။
