Imphal, Dec. 15: Home minister of India P. Chidambaram spent about 45 minutes in the designated camp of Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA), a suspension of operations signatory, at Singhat in Lamka district, northwest Zoland today, repoted the Telegraph newspaper.
“The Zomi cadres are very positive. They want to start political dialogue. We are moving forward with the process,” the home minister said.
Chidambaram assured delegates of Zomi Council, Kuki Innpi Manipur, Churachandpur District Students Union, Kuki Students Organisation, Zomi Students Federation and others at Khuga dam that the government had taken a decision regarding the lifting of protected area permit for foreigners visiting Manipur. “We have taken a decision on the permits. I will announce the decision once I get back to Delhi,” he said.
Although Chidambaram had made it very clear yesterday that there was no question of redrawing Manipur’s boundary, the Zomi Council and Zomi Students Federation demanded creation of an autonomous state for the Zomi.
Indian home minister also met delegates from various groups, including Nagas, Kukis, senior citizens of Manipur and All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union. While he gave a patient hearing to the grievances, the home minister refused to take questions from the journalists, said the telegraph.
